Unidad Tangana – Modern Renovation in Vedado

Located in the municipality of Vedado, the Tangana Unit is part of a mid-century modern building from the 1950s. While the original layout reflected the style of its time, the spaces felt small compared to today’s standards. The project reimagined the interior with a more open and contemporary concept, transforming the apartment into a brighter, more spacious home.

One of the main design decisions was to sacrifice one bedroom in order to expand the terrace and family area, creating a generous and flexible living space. The kitchen, originally separated from the dining room by a wall, was also reconfigured into a single integrated kitchen-dining area, reinforcing the open-plan layout.

Vegetation, a defining element of Studio BAS, also plays a key role. A vertical garden was introduced on a strategically chosen wall, becoming a visual focal point that balances the color palette and softens the modern lines of the design.

The result is a home that respects its modernist heritage while adapting to the lifestyle of today, offering functionality, openness, and harmony with nature.
